A short drive could take you to any of the following; the golden sands, rock pools and towering cliffs surrounding Trebarwith Strand, the legendary Tintagel with its famous castle and shiny new suspension bridge, the fishing villages of Boscastle and Port Isaac. Rock, Padstow and the lifeguard patrolled Polzeath beach complete with surf school. Inland you can hire bikes at Wenfordbridge, the beginning of The Camel Trail – a near flat, largely traffic-free trail following the old railway line to Padstow, explore nearby Pencarrow House and Gardens or sample the wines at The Camel Vineyard. Bodmin is home to the infamous Jail and its newly opened attractions. The world-famous smugglers haunt of Jamaica Inn, immortalised by Daphne du Maurier, or the more peaceful National Trust’s Lanhydrock House. Beach 6½ miles.
