Grandma's Stick House

The place is called Grandma's Stick House. It's out at Mullacott Cross, just inland from Ilfracombe. You get views over the fields and a glimpse of the sea in the distance.

It's a single-storey lodge, detached, so it's just you. It sleeps six. Three bedrooms. One has a kingsize bed and its own shower room, there's a double, and a twin room. There's a second bathroom with a bath as well. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well-equipped.

The main living area is all one space, with patio doors that open onto a big deck. The deck runs along two sides, so you can follow the sun. There's parking right next to it for two cars.

Ilfracombe town centre is about a ten-minute drive. It's a proper old harbour town. You've got the usual fish and chips, some galleries, and Damien Hirst's big statue on the pier. For beaches, Woolacombe is about four miles away. That's your classic big sandy beach, good for surfing and sunsets. Saunton Sands and Croyde are within a half hour drive if you want to try different spots.

If you like walking, you're not far from the South West Coast Path. Exmoor National Park is about nine miles south, which is good for wilder inland walks. The Tarka Trail is close by if you fancy a flat cycle or walk on the old railway line.

In terms of what's here: it's got a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and WiFi included. All the bedding and towels are provided. There's an electric fire for cooler evenings. No pets, I'm afraid.

For planning days out, the Exmoor National Park website is useful, as is Visit Devon.
