Broughton in Furness is a quiet 11th-century town which was once important for the woollen and cattle trades. Nearby are the restored remains of Duddon Ironworks, one of the most impressive charcoal-fired blast furnaces in Britain. There is a selection shops with a few nice pubs and cafes to enjoy in the town. Broughton is delightfully placed with easy access to the coast and famous lakes such as Coniston and Windermere within easy driving distance. For the walkers among you, Scafell Pike and Coniston Old Man offer stunning walks with breath-taking views. Other natural attractions include Stanley Ghyll waterfall and Great Worm Cragg or perhaps you’d like to see Hard Knott Roman fort or Swinside stone circle. They is plenty to see in the local area and Broughton also gives access to other Lake District attractions.
