Y Bwthyn Pren is in Aberaeron, a small harbour town on the west Wales coast. The name just means 'the wooden cottage'. It's detached and sleeps two people.
The layout is upside down. You come in on the ground floor to the bedroom and bathroom. A spiral staircase goes up to the living area and kitchen. The stairs are narrow and turn tightly, which is worth knowing if you have any mobility issues.
The main room upstairs has doors that open to a small Juliet balcony. It looks out over the River Aeron. You can hear the water from there. There's a little courtyard outside with a table and chairs. You can store bikes, and there's direct access to the riverbank if you've brought a canoe.
The town is a few minutes' walk away. The harbour has all those colourful Georgian buildings. There are pubs, restaurants, and shops selling local stuff. It gets busy with festivals in the summer but is quieter in winter. The nearest shop and a pub are about 150 yards away.
You can walk from the cottage along a riverside path to Llanerchaeron, which is a National Trust house and estate. It's a nice walk.
For a day out, New Quay is a ten minute drive along the coast. You can sometimes see dolphins from the harbour there, or go on a boat trip. New Quay Beach is good. Aberystwyth is about half an hour north by car. The Cardigan Bay coast path runs right past the area if you like walking.
The cottage has a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-equipped. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking for one car on site. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.
