Cider Cottage is in Hawkchurch. It's a Devon village but it’s right on the border with Dorset. You're up at the head of a valley here, so the views are over fields and woods.
It's a 15th century stone cottage, so it's got thick walls, flagstone floors, beams everywhere, and a big inglenook fireplace. Spacious but old. The stairs are steep because it's that old.
It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable, it's clean, it works. The garden is enclosed and it's all yours. There's parking right there.
You're on what used to be a farm. It's not working now but the sheep are in the next field. You'll see deer, badgers, foxes. Owls at night. There's an adventure playground for kids on the site.
The coast at Lyme Regis is about five miles away. That gets you to the Jurassic Coast. Charmouth is good for fossil hunting. You can be in Seaton, Beer, or West Bay in under half an hour. For a bigger day out, Exeter is about 25 miles.
There's a local pub and a shop about a mile away. A country hotel with a restaurant is half a mile.
Facilities: it's got pretty much everything. Washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, TV. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. Bedding is included. There's an electric vehicle charger. You can bring your bikes, there's storage. Sorry, no pets.
If you're planning walks or days out, the National Trust Devon site is useful, and so is the official Jurassic Coast site.
