Mill Cottage is ours. It's in Hawkchurch, right on the Devon-Dorset border. It's a detached stone cottage that sleeps two. There's one bedroom upstairs and one bathroom. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means the fixtures and fittings are of a high standard. It's a proper old cottage though, so the doorways are low and the stairs are a bit steep. Just something to be aware of if you're tall.
The bedroom has French doors that open out over the fields. There's a king-size bed and a roll-top bath in there. Downstairs is open plan, with a wood burner. The living area looks out onto a private lawned garden. We're across the lane if you need anything, but you won't see us otherwise. We leave a welcome basket with some basics when you arrive.
Hawkchurch is a small, quiet village. The local pub is about a mile's walk away, it's a traditional coaching inn. The nearest shop is about a mile and a half. For a bigger shop, Axminster is a ten-minute drive. It's a historic town and has a train station on the London line, which is useful.
The coast is close. Lyme Regis is about seven miles, maybe twenty minutes in the car. It's got the Cobb, a sandy beach, and fossil shops. Charmouth beach, just a bit further along, is good for fossil hunting. The whole Jurassic Coast is on your doorstep for walking. West Bay, Seatown, Beer – they're all within a 30-minute drive.
For walking inland, there's the Blackdown Hills area. Fishing and golf are available locally, details are in the cottage.
Facilities: there's parking right next to the cottage, wifi, a smart TV, the wood burner, a BBQ, and bike storage. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.
