The Old Dairy
The Old Dairy is just outside Thorncombe village, on the Dorset and Somerset border. It's a single-storey barn conversion, so everything's on the ground floor. It's detached and quiet, with fields all around.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom, which is a wet room with a walk-in shower. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's clean and comfortable, but it's a converted barn, so the ceilings are high and the rooms are big, not cosy in a cottage way.
You're right on the edge of the Blackdown Hills. There are three national trails you can pick up from here: the Monarch's Way, the Liberty Trail, and the Wessex Ridgeway. The garden is enclosed, so it's safe for dogs. There's a BBQ and you get a good view across the countryside.
Forde Abbey and Gardens is about a ten minute drive. It's a proper old house with massive gardens. Forde Abbey.
The Jurassic Coast is about half an hour away by car. Lyme Regis is the closest, for the beach and the Cobb. Charmouth is good for fossil hunting. If you go inland, the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton is about 25 minutes drive. National Trust Dorset has most of the coastal properties.
The local shop is a mile away in Thorncombe. The pub there is about a mile and a half. For a restaurant, you'd need to go to Chard, which is four miles.
Facilities: it's all on one level, which is useful. There's a wood burner, dishwasher, washing machine, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. Parking is right outside.
