The Old Engine House is on our beef farm in Drimpton. It's detached, so no shared walls. We live next door in the farmhouse. The main part of the building is over a hundred years old, it used to house the farm's old engine. It's been a holiday place for about twenty years now.
It sleeps five. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is useful. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's clean and comfortable, but it's an old farm building so the floors aren't all level and some of the doorways are low. You get used to it quickly.
The garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing dogs. You're welcome to bring up to two. There are fields all around for walks right from the door. The local pub is a couple of minutes' walk down the lane. They do food.
Forde Abbey and Gardens are basically on the doorstep, you can walk there. The Jurassic Coast is about a half hour drive. Lyme Regis and Charmouth are the closest bits. Lyme has the Cobb harbour and a sandy beach. Charmouth is better for fossil hunting. West Bay, with the cliffs, is a bit further.
If you head inland, the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton is about forty minutes. The Haynes Motor Museum is a similar drive. For a longer day out, you can get to Glastonbury or the city of Wells in under an hour.
What's here: a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right outside. We've put a stairgate in the cupboard under the stairs if you need it.
Some useful links for planning: National Trust Dorset and for the coast, Jurassic Coast.
