The Lodge is one of the cottages on the Marshwood Manor estate in Bettiscombe. It's detached, so it's on its own. You're at the end of a private drive, so it's quiet. The main thing is the space – there are ten acres of shared gardens and grounds to wander in. That's fields, woodland, and lawns. It's very peaceful.
It sleeps six. There are three bedrooms and, usefully, three bathrooms. It's rated 5 Star, which means it's well-equipped and finished to a high standard. It's comfortable, not just basic. The property is all on the ground floor, which is good for accessibility, and the entrance is wheelchair friendly. There's parking right outside.
Inside, you've got a woodburning stove for cooler evenings, a TV, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's a highchair if you need it, and you can bring up to two dogs. Outside, there's your own patio or garden area with furniture, and you can use the big shared lounge bar and games area with table tennis.
For the area, you're deep in the Dorset countryside. The coast is about five miles away. Lyme Regis and Charmouth are the closest, good for fossils and sand. For a proper walk, the Golden Cap estate is National Trust land and the cliffs are spectacular. Inland, it's all rolling hills and valleys, good for walking or cycling. There's a shop in Marshwood village and a couple of thatched pubs a short drive away. Bridport, about two miles, has a decent market and shops.
If you're planning trips, the Visit Dorset site is useful. For walking routes and coast path information, the South West Coast Path Association has good details.
