The Old Forge is one of the cottages at Marshwood Manor, near Bettiscombe. It's part of an old range of buildings converted into a few holiday lets. You get your own garden, and there are ten acres of shared grounds you can use. It's very quiet here.
It sleeps six people. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is handy. It's got a 4 Star rating. The conversion was done well, so it's comfortable but keeps some of the old building's character. The main living area is open plan.
There's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings. Other than that, it's got the things you'd expect: a TV, wifi, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. There's parking right outside.
On the estate, there's a shared games room with a table tennis table. It's useful if the weather turns.
The location is rural. You're about five miles from the coast. The nearest shop and a couple of pubs are in Marshwood village, a short drive away. For a bigger shop, Bridport is about two miles.
The beaches around here are good. Lyme Regis and Charmouth are about a twenty-minute drive. West Bay is a bit closer. The coastal path runs along there. It's a nice area for walking. National Trust Devon & East Dorset has information on Golden Cap and other local spots.
If you're interested in fossils, the cliffs at Charmouth are famous for them. Lyme Regis has a sailing school and you can hire boats. There's horse riding nearby if you arrange it in advance.
That's about it. It's a straightforward, comfortable place in a quiet part of Dorset.
