The Farmhouse At Higher Westwater is on a quiet lane in Kilmington. It's a thatched cottage from the 1500s attached to another building, but your cottage and garden are private. The owner lives next door.
It sleeps six. There are three bedrooms and each one has its own bathroom, which is handy. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's been done to a high standard. They've kept old things like the big fireplace and beams, but put in modern comforts too.
There's a small river at the end of the lane and a ford to cross it. The road doesn't go any further, so there's no traffic. It's very quiet.
You're about two miles from a shop and a pub that does food. The town of Axminster is close. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage Canteen is there. His main HQ is up the valley.
The coast is about a twenty minute drive. Lyme Regis and Charmouth are good for fossil hunting. You've also got Seaton, Beer, and Sidmouth nearby. All part of the Jurassic Coast.
For walking, there's a footpath close by. The lanes are good for cycling. The National Trust has several properties within half an hour, like Shute Barton.
Things you should know: the stairs are steep, narrow, and open. They're typical for a place this old. There's a stairgate at the top if you need it.
Facilities: parking, an enclosed garden, a barbecue, wood burner, dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and a cot and highchair. One well-behaved dog is allowed. There's an electric vehicle charger.
