Samphire Cottage

Samphire Cottage is our place in Lyme Regis. It's down a private lane, about a five minute walk from the front and the Cobb. It's a detached stone house, sleeps eight in four bedrooms, with two bathrooms.

It's got a 4 Star rating. It's well-equipped, comfortable. It's not a show home, it's a place to come back to after a day out. The garden is enclosed and gets the sun in the afternoon. There's a patio with a table and a barbecue. Parking is for one car on the drive.

Inside, there's a woodburning stove in the living room for cooler evenings. The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. One of the bathrooms is a ground floor wet room, which is handy. We include the bedding and towels.

You can bring up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed but not fortress-like, so keep an eye on them.

The walk into town is easy, downhill. There are pubs, cafes, and the usual seaside shops. The beach is shingle, but the sand appears at low tide. Fossil hunting on the beaches is the main event for kids. You can charter boats from the harbour.

For walking, you're right on the South West Coast Path. Walking west to Charmouth or east towards Seaton is great. The National Trust land is all around here, including the Golden Cap estate.

Within about half an hour's drive, you've got Bridport and West Bay, the market town of Honiton, and the tank museum at Bovington if that's your thing. Exeter and Dorchester are a bit further, maybe 40 minutes.
