Horse Spout is a detached lodge on a small estate near Backbarrow. It's modern, not an old cottage. You'll drive past some nice looking Belted Galloway cows on the way up.
It sleeps six in three bedrooms, all with their own shower room. That's handy. It's a 5 Star place, which means it's well-equipped and finished to a high standard.
The main thing is the view. The living area has big windows looking out over the countryside. There's a wood burner for cooler evenings. Outside, there's a balcony at the front and a private hot tub at the back, which looks into the woods.
There's a barn owl that lives in the wood opposite. We liked it so much we have a painting of one inside.
Location wise, you're in the South Lakes. It's quiet here, but you can get to the busier bits easily. The Haverthwaite steam railway is about two miles away. That goes to Lakeside, where you can get boats on Windermere, or you can change for the train to Bowness.
A short drive gets you to Newby Bridge for the Lakes Aquarium, or Cartmel. Cartmel's about three miles. It's a nice village with a priory, a few good pubs, and it's famous for sticky toffee pudding.
The nearest shop is two miles away. There's a pub about a mile and a half down the road.
For facilities: it's got a dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair. Sorry, no pets.
