Horse Spout
Horse Spout is a lodge in Backbarrow. It's on a small estate with a lake and some woods. The cows you drive past on the way in are Belted Galloways.
It sleeps six. There are three bedrooms, all with their own bathroom. It’s a new build, so it’s got big windows and an open plan living area. There’s a wood burner. The balcony looks over the estate lake. At the back there’s a private hot tub, which faces the woods.
A barn owl lives in the wood opposite. We’ve got a painting of one inside.
It’s a five star lodge, so everything is new and included. Washing machine, dishwasher, towels, all that.
Location wise, you’re south of the main lakes. Newby Bridge is a few minutes’ drive. That’s where you can get the Lakes Aquarium and the Windermere cruise boats. The Haverthwaite Steam Railway is about two miles away, it goes up to Bowness.
Cartmel is three miles away. That’s the village with the racecourse, the sticky toffee pudding shop, and the Michelin-starred restaurants. There’s a shop two miles away and a pub about a mile and a half.
For wider trips, the southern Lake District fells are within half an hour. Grange-over-Sands and the coast are about fifteen minutes. The Lake District National Park site is good for planning walks.
