Riverview Apartment
Riverview Apartment is in Backbarrow. It's a first-floor flat in a converted mill building. The name's accurate, you get a good view of the River Leven from the back.
It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. The rating is 4 Star, which I think reflects that it's been well modernised inside while keeping the character of the building. The entrance and the main living space are all on one level, which is good for accessibility.
The old blast furnace from the ironworks is still there in front of the building. You hear the river from the living room. People do kayak on it, and sometimes you can see salmon.
For facilities, you've got the basics: dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included.
The nearest pub for food is about a five-minute walk away. For a proper shop you'd need to drive to Ulverston or Newby Bridge, which is about seven miles.
Newby Bridge is only a five-minute drive. You can get on the Lakes Aquarium or the Windermere Lake Cruises from there. The Haverthwaite Steam Railway station is very close by too.
If you book, you get access to the indoor pool and spa at a hotel nearby. There's a small charge for that.
You're well placed for the south lakes. Ulverston, Coniston, and the lower end of Windermere are all within about twenty minutes' drive. The Lake District National Park site is useful for planning walks.
