Woodside Cottage is in Backbarrow. It’s a semi-detached house on a lane, not right in the village but only a couple of minutes’ walk to the main road.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's well-equipped and comfortable. The wood burner in the main room is good, it heats the whole place. The terrace gets the sun in the afternoon.
The kitchen is through the side door. It's got everything you'd need. There's a washing machine and a dishwasher. Parking is for one car on the drive.
The stairs are a bit steep, like a lot of places here. We've put a stairgate at the top if you've got little ones.
You can bring up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed but it's not huge, so bigger dogs might find it a bit tight.
Backbarrow is quiet. There's a hotel with a bar and restaurant a short walk away. For more options, Newby Bridge is five minutes down the road. It's got a couple of good pubs by the river, the Lakes Aquarium, and you can get lake cruises from there over to Ambleside.
The Haverthwaite Steam Railway is just up the road. You can get the train to Lakeside and connect with the boats, or go the other way to Ulverston.
For walking, you're well placed. You can drive into the fells easily, or there are lower level walks from the doorstep along the river and through the woods. Grizedale Forest is about ten minutes away for cycling and walking trails.
Cartmel is about a fifteen minute drive. It's known for the racecourse, the sticky toffee pudding, and there's a Michelin-starred restaurant if that's your thing. Grange-over-Sands is on the other side of the estuary.
Windermere and Bowness are about twenty minutes by car, depending on traffic. Ambleside is a bit further. The coast at Morecambe Bay is about eight miles.
Useful links for planning: Lake District National Park and English Heritage - Furness Abbey. The abbey is about a twenty minute drive.
Facilities included are all listed. Bedding and towels are provided. WiFi works fine for browsing.
