Ellerside is in Holker, down a private lane. It’s a big detached house that sleeps eight. You get four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The house has a 4 Star rating. It’s spacious and well-equipped. More comfortable than luxurious.
There’s a kitchen with a farmhouse table. A separate dining hall with a parquet floor. Two living rooms, one with a gas fire and one with a wood burner. The wood burner makes the room very cosy.
You’ve got your own garden and patio. It looks out over Roudsea Wood and Mosses. The driveway has electric gates and there’s a detached garage you can use for bikes.
The village of Cark is about two miles away. It has a shop, a bakery, and a couple of pubs. The train station there is on the Furness line. You can get to Grange-over-Sands or change for other lines.
Cartmel is four miles. It’s famous for its priory and the sticky toffee pudding shop. There’s also a Michelin-starred restaurant there, L'Enclume. The racecourse holds meetings a few times a year.
Holker Hall is very close. You can walk the grounds, visit the house, or have afternoon tea.
It’s about a ten minute drive to Haverthwaite for the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. That connects to the Windermere steamers. From there, you can get a boat to Bowness or Ambleside.
For walking, you’ve got Roudsea Wood on the doorstep. The Cistercian Way and Cumbrian Coastal Way pass near Cark. Morecambe Bay and the south Lake District fells are within easy reach.
Facilities include: everything listed really, like the dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a cot and highchair.
