Yew Tree Farm

Yew Tree Farm is near Newton in Cartmel. It's a converted ground-floor farm building, so it's all on one level. It sleeps four people in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms.

The main space is open plan. Kitchen, dining table, and living area all in one room. There's an open fire. The walls are thick, so it stays warm. Past the kitchen there are two double bedrooms and a family bathroom. Further down the hall is a twin room and a shower room. There's a big utility room at the end, which is good for boots and wet dogs.

You get the gravel yard area to yourselves for parking. It's enclosed, so it's fine for kids or a dog to run about. The barn next door is an antiques place with a café, which is handy. The café is good.

It's a hamlet, so it's quiet. The A590 is close by for getting around, but you don't hear it. You can walk to a pub called Heft, about half a mile away. It's a gastropub. Another good pub, the Royal Oak, is about a mile away in Lindale.

Cartmel village is three miles away. That's where the famous sticky toffee pudding is from, and there's the L'Enclume restaurant. Grange-over-Sands is also three miles. It's a Victorian seaside town with a promenade and shops.

The Lake District National Park starts here. You can drive into the main part of the Lakes easily. The coast at Arnside or Morecambe Bay is about ten or fifteen minutes away. The nearest proper beach for sand is probably around Barrow, about a 30-minute drive.

Facilities: there's parking, WiFi, a washing machine in the utility room, a dishwasher, and an open fire. Bedding and towels are included. One well-behaved dog is allowed. There's a highchair if you need it.

For planning days out, the Lake District National Park site is useful. So is National Trust Lake District.
