Lavender Cottage
Lavender Cottage is in Bowland Bridge, which is just outside Bowness and Windermere. It's a detached stone cottage, quite old, from the 1700s. It sleeps four, with two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating.
The place has a wood burner, which is good for cooler evenings. There are flagged floors and oak beams, so watch your head in a couple of places. It's got a two-acre garden mainly to yourselves, though the owner is occasionally around tending to it.
There's a pub less than a mile down the road. For shops, Bowness-on-Windermere is about a ten-minute drive. That's where you can get boat trips on the lake. Kendal is about twenty minutes away, which is bigger and has more options for cafes and restaurants.
You're well placed for walking straight from the door. For a proper walk, the Lake District National Park site has routes. You can drive into the central fells in under half an hour.
