Bandrake Barn

Bandrake Barn is in Oxen Park, which is south of the main Lakes. It's a converted stone barn from the 1800s. You get the garden to yourselves. It's enclosed, which is good if you have kids or a dog.

It sleeps four in two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have their own bathroom. One is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible. The stairs to the upstairs bedroom are a typical barn conversion staircase, so they're a bit steep and turn a corner.

The place has a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable, not luxurious. There are oak beams. It's got underfloor heating and an electric wood burner effect stove for looks. All the bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine and a dishwasher.

The pub with food is about an eight-minute walk away. There's a shop three miles off in Bouth. For a big beach, you drive to Silecroft, which is about twenty minutes. It's a good open beach for a run or a walk.

You're about twenty minutes' drive from Coniston Water and the Grizedale Forest. Grizedale has miles of trails for walking and mountain biking. Go Ape is there if you fancy it. Windermere and Bowness are the same sort of distance, for boat trips or the main tourist things.

Further afield, you can get to Cartmel in twenty minutes for the racecourse and the sticky toffee pudding shop. The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, the La'al Ratty, is about forty minutes by car. That goes up into the fells.

Useful links if you're planning: Lake District National Park for walking routes, and National Trust Lake District for their properties.

Facilities: there's parking, the enclosed garden, a BBQ, bike storage, WiFi, and a TV. No pets, sorry.
