Ringslade Barn is on the edge of Newton Abbot, up in Highweek village. It’s the old stables for the main house. The house itself is 16th century, you’ll see it in the grounds but there’s a separate barn between you so it’s private. You get five acres to wander around.
It sleeps six, three bedrooms. Two bathrooms which is handy. It’s got a 4 Star rating. It’s smart inside, flagstone floors downstairs. We think it’s nice.
Outside there’s a big lawn at the front. Round the back is an enclosed courtyard, then a gate to a meadow with old apple trees. There’s a fire pit with log seats out there. There’s also a wildlife pond in the meadow, it's not fenced, so just be aware if you’ve got little ones.
In the grounds there’s a games room with half-size table tennis, a pool table, table football and darts. You can also use the cinema room, it seats twelve and has a Blu-ray player and streaming.
The pub’s about 400 yards down the lane. It serves food. Shop is about three quarters of a mile. Newton Abbot town centre is a mile or so away, they’ve got the racecourse and a leisure centre there. The mainline train station is handy.
For beaches, you’re looking at Shaldon or Teignmouth, about seven miles. Torquay’s a bit further, that’s where you get the boat trips from. Dartmoor is close, maybe six miles to the edge. Good for walking. Dartmoor National Park has all the information.
Within half an hour you’ve got Exeter with the cathedral, or Plymouth. Paignton Zoo is nearby. Totnes on the River Dart is worth a visit. There are a few National Trust places like Compton Castle and Greenway if that’s your thing.
Facilities: you’ve got parking, wifi, a dishwasher, washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a cot and highchair if you need them. Enclosed garden. BBQ. Sorry, no pets.
