Rook

The Rook is one of the cottages at Newhouse Barton, near Ipplepen. It's set back from the road in the middle of fields, shared with a few other cottages that used to be farm buildings.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well looked after. It's open plan downstairs, with the living area and kitchen together.

You get your own patio and garden area. There's a woodburning stove for cooler nights. Everything you'd expect is here: WiFi, TV, washing machine, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them.

The thing about staying here is the shared facilities on the site. There's a heated indoor swimming pool, which is Roman-style, so it's a proper pool. There's a games room with a pool table and table tennis. Outside, there's a kids' play area. The whole site is traffic-free, which is good if you have young children.

For shops and a pub, you need to go into Ipplepen village, about a mile and a half away. For a bigger shop, Newton Abbot or Totnes are about ten minutes' drive.

You're really well placed here. Dartmoor is about 20 minutes north. The coast at Torbay, Teignmouth or Dawlish is about 20 minutes south. Totnes is ten minutes away and has the castle and the river. Dartmouth and the start of the South Hams is about half an hour.

If you're planning days out, these sites are useful: Dartmoor National Park, National Trust Devon, and Visit South Devon.

No pets, I'm afraid.
