Downhouse is in Trewarmett, which is a small village above the coast. It's one of two cottages here. They're old, 17th century places, built from stone. We extended them a long time ago, so they're more spacious now but they've still got the original feel with beams and flagstone floors. You get the whole garden to yourselves. It's a good size, and it looks out over the fields to the sea.
The cottage sleeps five people in three bedrooms. There's one bathroom with a walk-in shower. It's a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. The stairs are cottage stairs, so they turn a corner and are a bit steeper than modern ones.
The water comes from our own spring. It's tested every year and it tastes very good. We'd ask you to please refill bottles from the tap rather than buy plastic ones.
You're about a mile from the coast path and a beach. To get to the beach, you go down the lane and then through a couple of fields. It's a proper Cornish cove. The views from the garden and the patio are really something. The local pub, the Port William, does good food and has those same spectacular views. There's another pub, the Millhouse, about a mile away.
For a day out, Tintagel Castle is very close. Boscastle harbour is just along the coast. Port Isaac, which you might know from the TV, is a short drive. Polzeath beach is popular for surfing. If you want to cross the estuary, the ferry from Rock to Padstow is fun, and Padstow has the famous seafood restaurants.
The garden has some games stuff like swingball, cricket bats, and a few surfboards you can use. There's parking right outside. We take up to three dogs. All the bedding and towels are included. You've got a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and a cot and highchair if you need them.
