Oak Lodge is on the Forest Lakes site near Venn. It's a modern timber lodge, not an old cottage. It's got a lot of space, which is the main point if you're a group of eight.
It sleeps eight in five bedrooms. Four of them are doubles with kingsize beds, and the fifth has bunk beds. There are four bathrooms, which helps a lot with that many people. It's got a 4 Star rating.
There are two separate living rooms. One has a wood burner and a TV. The other has big windows looking out to the garden. The doors open straight out onto a decked terrace. The hot tub is out there. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you've got kids or a dog. You can bring one dog.
The site itself is quiet, mostly fields and a few fishing lakes. It's not a busy holiday park. You're about a 15-minute drive from the north Devon coast. Westward Ho! is the nearest big beach. Clovelly is about 20 minutes away. It's a historic fishing village with steep, cobbled streets. The Milky Way adventure park is also close by, maybe a 10-minute drive, good if you've got children.
For facilities, it's well equipped. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi. Parking for a couple of cars right outside. It says it's "Christmas Themed", which just means they put up some festive decorations in December.
For wider planning, the National Trust looks after a lot of the coast and countryside around here. The North Devon National Landscape site has walking routes. If you fancied a day out, Exmoor is within half an hour's drive.
