The Shippen

The Shippen is a converted barn on our smallholding in Tosberry. It’s detached and very quiet. You come down a private lane off the main road to get to it.

It sleeps four. There are two bedrooms, and each one has its own bathroom. One bedroom is downstairs, the other is up. There’s also a single bed on the upstairs landing, which is handy for a child. It’s got a 4 Star rating.

The main room is open-plan, so it feels spacious. There’s a wood burner for colder nights. The kitchen has an electric Aga, a dishwasher, and a washing machine in the downstairs bathroom. The conservatory gets the sun most of the day and opens onto the patio and lawn. The garden looks over fields, but it isn’t fenced in. We have chickens, ducks, and geese wandering about, so you’ll need to keep an eye on dogs.

The cottage has its own water supply, from a borehole. It’s tested regularly. Heating is underfloor on the ground floor and radiators upstairs.

Hartland village is about a mile and a half away. It has shops, a post office, and a couple of pubs. Hartland Quay is about a ten minute drive. The coast there is dramatic, with a small beach and a pub. There are lots of other beaches within half an hour, from rocky coves to the bigger sandy ones like Bude.

You’re right on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty here. There’s a bit of woodland in front of the cottage for a short walk, and the South West Coast Path is close by for longer ones.

Facilities: All bedding and towels are included. There’s a cot and a highchair. WiFi is provided. There is on-site parking. The entrance and one bathroom have grab rails, and there are no steps at the front door, so it’s accessible for wheelchairs.
