Speke's Retreat
So, Speke's Retreat is two barns, right next to each other. They're converted, modern inside, but they're in Milford, a quiet little spot near Hartland in North Devon.
It sleeps twelve, across five bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, which is handy for a big group. The rating is 4 Star, which means it's comfortable, not just basic.
The location is the main thing. You're about a mile from the coast path here. You can walk out the door and be on the path to the cliffs in no time. It's proper rugged coastline. Hartland Abbey is close by, and the beach at Speke's Mill Mouth is dramatic, with a waterfall. Hartland village is four miles away for a shop and a couple of pubs.
From here, you can get to Clovelly, which is that famous village with the steep cobbled street. It's National Trust. The Clovelly Estate has the details. Bude is about a twenty minute drive for a wider beach and surfing. Westward Ho! is about half an hour.
Facilities: it's got what you'd expect. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. There's parking. You can bring up to two dogs. Bedding and towels are included. There's a patio and garden for each barn, and a BBQ.
