This is Birdsong Cottage in Hartland. It's a one-bedroom place for two people. I'd give it four stars, it's comfortable and well looked after.
The cottage is semi-detached. It’s very quiet. It sits next to Forestry Commission land, so you get woods on one side and a view over a lake on the other. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing dogs. You can sit out there.
Inside, it’s all on one level apart from a couple of steps down into the living area. The doorway and the main rooms are wheelchair accessible. There's a shower room, a kitchen that's open to the living area, and the bedroom. It has a washing machine and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included.
You’re a couple of miles from the Atlantic Highway, so getting around is straightforward. The nearest shop is in Hartland, about three miles away. For a pub and a restaurant, you’d go to Woolfardisworthy, which is two miles.
The coast is close. Bucks Mill beach is about fifteen minutes by car. It's a shingle beach in a quiet hamlet. Clovelly is four miles east, that's the village with the steep, cobbled street. For sandy beaches and surfing, Westward Ho! is eleven miles, and Bude is about nine miles the other way, into Cornwall.
There are lakes right next to the property, and a fishing pass is provided if you want to use them. For walking, you've got the woods around the cottage and the coastal path around Hartland Point. The National Trust looks after a lot of the coastline here. The Tarka Trail for cycling is also nearby.
You can bring up to two dogs. There's parking for one car on the gravel area outside.
