The Shippen is on a working farm in Cranford, about a mile from the coast. It's a converted cattle shed, now a cottage. Solid, stone-built thing. You'll see the farm going on around you, which is nice if you don't mind a bit of noise and activity during the day. It goes quiet in the evening.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms. That's handy. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-equipped. No real complaints on that front.
You can bring two dogs. There's a field you're welcome to use for them. The garden is yours, it’s enclosed, and there's a picnic table with a good view over the valley.
The coast path is a mile down the lane. Turn left for Bucks Mills, a small beach in a steep valley. Turn right and you can walk to Peppercombe. Clovelly is a proper walk, or a short drive. The National Trust runs it now.
Local amenities: there's a village shop half a mile away. A pub that does food is about a mile and a half. Bideford is the nearest proper town for supermarkets. From there you can get the boat to Lundy Island. The Tarka Trail for cycling is nearby too.
Facilities: it's got what you'd expect. Washing machine, dishwasher, TV. There's a wood burner for cooler nights. Parking right outside. There's an electric vehicle charger. If you want to order a supermarket delivery for your arrival, let me know and I'll put it away for you.
A few other things within half an hour's drive: RHS Rosemoor, The Big Sheep, Hartland Quay. Instow and Appledore are nice for a wander.
