The Shippen is a converted barn near Cranford, in North Devon. It’s one of two cottages here, but you have your own space. The garden is enclosed and there’s a field you can use, which is handy if you’ve brought dogs. The view from the garden is across a valley, it’s nice. It’s very quiet at night, good for seeing stars.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms. It’s a 4 Star place, so it’s comfortable and has everything you need. It’s open plan downstairs. There’s a woodburner for cooler evenings. It has an electric car charger.
You’re about a mile from the coast path. Bucks Mills beach is close, about a ten minute drive. It’s a pebbly beach, good for dogs. The proper coastal path is right there for walking. From there you can walk to Clovelly, which is that famous steep village with the donkeys. Peppercombe beach is also along that way.
The local shop is half a mile. There’s a pub that does food about a mile and a half away. Bideford is the nearest proper town, ten minutes by car. You can get boat trips to Lundy Island from there, or hire bikes for the Tarka Trail. Barnstaple is about twenty minutes away for bigger shops.
If you’re looking for things to do, the National Trust has a lot of places nearby. RHS Rosemoor is about half an hour’s drive. Hartland Quay is dramatic, worth the trip. For families, The Big Sheep or The Milky Way are both within a thirty minute drive.
Facilities: It’s got the woodburner, a dishwasher, TV, parking. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. They’ve also said you can arrange a supermarket delivery to arrive before you get here, and they’ll put it away for you.
