Bodwen is on the Isle of Wight, near the village of Wootton. It's a big Victorian house that sleeps fourteen, with seven bedrooms and three bathrooms. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's been done up to a high standard.
The house is down a private road on a nine-acre estate. You're right by the coast, with woods around you. There's a private beach about 200 yards away. The red squirrels do turn up sometimes.
It was built as a summer house for a countess who was with Queen Victoria, so the position is all about the view over the Solent. You get that from the front terrace. There's a restored fountain in the grounds, and a patio area right by the beach with a BBQ.
For a place this size, they've thought about stuff to do. There's a kids' playground with swings and things. You'll find sports equipment like croquet and badminton sets. There's also a wood-fired hot tub out the back.
Inside, it's been decorated in a contemporary way. It has a woodburning stove, a games room, and wifi. Bedding and towels are included. There's an outside tap for washing off boots or bikes.
You've got a shop, a pub, and a restaurant about a mile away in Wootton. Ryde is four miles off for a bigger town with shops and a sandy beach.
If you're looking for days out, Osborne House is about five miles away. The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is three miles. For walking, the island's footpath network is very good. You can drive to most places on the island within half an hour.
A few practical things: parking is on site. They can provide a cot and highchair. Sorry, no pets.
