This is Bodwen. It's a big Victorian house on the Isle of Wight, near Wootton. It used to be a summer house for a countess, but it’s not museum-like now. The main thing is it sleeps 14 people, comfortably. Seven bedrooms, three bathrooms.
It's on a private road, on a nine acre estate that goes right down to the coast. There are woods all around. You get your own bit of beach with a patio and a BBQ area. It's about a three minute walk to the water's edge.
The house has a 5 Star rating. It's been done up, but it's still a family house. It's got a wood burner for cooler nights. There's plenty of space for everyone to spread out.
Outside, there's a big lawn with views over the Solent. There's a proper wood-fired hot tub. The owners have put in a playground for kids with swings and a climbing frame. They've also left out sports stuff, like croquet and badminton sets.
Practical bits: It's all on one level from the drive to the main living space, but there are stairs to some bedrooms. There's a tap outside for cleaning boots or bikes. Plenty of parking. Bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine and dishwasher. No pets.
The local pub is about a mile away. Ryde is four miles. It's a typical seaside town with a sandy beach, shops and places to eat.
If you want to see the sights, Osborne House is about a twenty minute drive. The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is even closer. For walks, the Isle of Wight has hundreds of miles of paths. You can get a good overview from the Visit Isle of Wight site.
If you need even more space, you can rent the cottage next door as well.
