The Duchy is on the left wing of the main house, Auchenhay. You come down a long tree-lined drive to get here. It feels quite private.
It sleeps four, in two bedrooms, and there are two bathrooms which is handy. It's got a 5 Star rating, so everything is in good order and comfortable. The stairs inside are narrow, and there's a spiral staircase to the hot tub deck. Just something to be aware of.
You get the garden area to yourself. The hot tub is out there and it does have a good view out to the sea. The wood burner in the lounge works well, and we supply the logs.
It's a rural spot, but Kirkcudbright is only a short drive away. That's the main harbour town. They call it the artists' town, there's always something on. The summer Tattoo is a big event.
The coast is right there for walks. You're also close to the Galloway Forest Park for proper hill walking and mountain biking. It’s a National Park area. There are several famous gardens within a half-hour drive, like Threave Garden.
Facilities: there's parking, a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.
