Mountain Cross

Mountain Cross is a detached stone house just outside Gatehouse of Fleet. You get about an acre of garden, mostly sloping, so it’s a good size. You can’t see the neighbours from most of the house.

It sleeps six, but it’s four bedrooms, which is handy for spreading out a bit. There’s a main bathroom upstairs and a second shower room downstairs. The house has a 4 Star rating, which means it’s got everything you need and is kept to a decent standard. Some of the doors are a bit low.

The local shop and pub are about half a mile down the lane. The pub serves meals. For the beach, there’s a few sandy ones about three miles away, like Carrick Shore.

Gatehouse of Fleet is a five minute drive. It’s got its own shops, places to eat, and the Mill on the Fleet exhibition. Kirkcudbright, which is full of art galleries, is about fifteen minutes in the car. Castle Douglas, where they’ve got all the food shops, is about twenty minutes.

The location is good for getting into the Galloway Forest Park for walking and cycling. The Kirroughtree visitor centre is close by. If you want a proper day out, you can drive down to the Mull of Galloway lighthouse, but that’s more like an hour.

You can bring up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed, which helps. There’s a washing machine, a dishwasher, Wi-Fi, and parking for a couple of cars. Bedding and towels are included. We’ve got a cot and a highchair if you need them.
