Knocktinkle is a terraced cottage in Gatehouse of Fleet. It’s part of an old listed schoolhouse, built in the 1790s. It sleeps four, has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It’s a 5 Star rating, which means it’s well-equipped and comfortable, not just fancy.
The stairs are cottage stairs, so a bit steep. But there’s a stairgate if you need it. There's parking right outside.
You’re on a quiet street. The local shop is about 100 yards away. There's a pub and a restaurant about 20 yards from the door. They're handy.
The cottage has a woodburning stove, which is nice in the cooler months. There's a patio garden out the back. It's dog friendly, so you can bring up to two pets.
You’re right on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park. It’s the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, so if it’s a clear night, the stars are good. For mountain biking, the 7Stanes trails at Kirroughtree and Dalbeattie forests are close by.
The coast is a few minutes’ drive. Mossyard and Carrick beaches are good for a walk. Kirkcudbright, the artists' town, is about a 15-minute drive. It’s got a nice harbour and some history.
If you want to plan trips, these sites are useful: Galloway Forest Park, National Trust for Scotland Threave, and Visit Scotland 7Stanes.
Facilities wise: it has a washing machine, dishwasher, Smart TV, WiFi, and a BBQ. Bedding and towels are provided. There's a cot and highchair if you need them.
You can book it together with Granary and Willow next door if you’ve got a bigger group.
