Rosebank Cottage is just outside Borgue, in Galloway. It's a small, old cottage from the 1800s. It used to be two places but it's been knocked into one, so it feels more spacious than it looks from outside. It's got two bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom. Sleeps four. We've had it rated as a 4 Star.
The main thing is the view. From the front bedrooms and the garden, you look straight out over open fields. There's a little bird hide in the front garden, which is actually quite good. You get sparrowhawks and all sorts.
The stairs are a bit steep. It's an old cottage, they're like that. We keep a stairgate at the top.
Everything's there for a week. Washing machine, dishwasher, TV with a satellite box. There's a wood burner in the kitchen and another smaller one in the front room. We leave some logs to get you started. The whole place is done with eco paints and that, if that matters to you.
The garden is enclosed. There's a table and chairs out the front under a pergola, and another set to the side where you catch the sun in the evening. Parking is right outside.
You can bring dogs. Two is fine.
Borgue itself is quiet. There's a village pub that does food, about a ten minute walk down the lane. For a proper shop, you need Kirkcudbright. That's about five miles away. It's a nice town with a harbour, some galleries, and a few places to eat. Good chip shop.
The coast is very close. You can be at Brighouse Bay or Carrick Bay in under ten minutes by car. Good for a walk on the beach. For a bigger beach day, Sandyhills is about twenty minutes drive.
If you want to go walking properly, the Galloway Forest Park is inland. Or you can follow the coast. For cycling, the 7stanes trails at Kirroughtree or Dalbeattie are within half an hour. They're serious mountain biking, but there are gentler routes too.
Other things nearby: Threave Gardens is about twenty minutes away. Dumfries is maybe forty minutes if you want a bigger town or to see the Burns stuff. Wigtown, the book town, is about half an hour.
