The Soup Kitchen is in Borgue, in the Galloway part of Dumfriesshire. It's a detached house, not attached to anything, so it's quiet. The name comes from its history. It was a church, then a school, then a store, and from 1844 it served hot meals to the village children in winter. You won't get soup now, but you get the whole place to yourselves.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well looked after.
The layout is upside down. The living room and kitchen are upstairs to make the most of the views over the fields. The views are good. There are big windows and patio doors that open onto a covered veranda. It's a decent spot for a morning coffee.
Outside, there's a hot tub in a wooden cabin. So you can use it even if the weather's bad, which it sometimes is here. The garden is enclosed.
The village pub is about fifty yards away. They serve food. The nearest shop is in Kirkcudbright, about five miles.
You're three miles from the coast. There are some nice beaches and coastal walks around here. Kirkcudbright is the main local town, on the estuary. It's known for artists and has a busy harbour. It's about a ten-minute drive.
For cyclists, we're central to several of the 7Stanes mountain biking trails. The Galloway Forest Park, which is a Dark Sky Park, is close by for stargazing. There's also Threave Garden nearby, which is National Trust for Scotland.
Facilities wise: it has parking, WiFi, a washing machine, a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring two dogs. There's a highchair and a stairgate if you need them.
