Violet Bank is a bungalow on the edge of Cockermouth. It's detached so you get your own space. The view from the front is across the fields to the fells. It's a good spot for watching the weather come in.
It sleeps eight people. Four bedrooms and two bathrooms, all on the same level so there are no stairs to worry about. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and clean.
The living room has a wood burner. The garden is private and there's a hot tub out there. We've fenced it in.
Cockermouth itself is a five minute drive, or a twenty minute walk if you don't mind the hill on the way back. It's a proper market town. There are pubs, a few supermarkets, and some decent independent shops. It's the birthplace of William Wordsworth. You can visit his house, Wordsworth House, if that's your sort of thing.
You're about fifteen minutes' drive from Bassenthwaite Lake. It's the only official 'lake' in the Lake District, the others are 'waters' or 'meres'. Buttermere and Crummock Water are probably half an hour. Keswick is twenty minutes.
For walking, you've got the northern fells right there. Skiddaw is the big one. For something a bit easier, the Forestry England site at Whinlatter has good trails and a visitor centre.
Facilities wise: it's got parking, a washing machine, dishwasher, and wifi. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring two dogs.
