Marine House is situated just 220 yards from East Wittering beach, with its shelving shingle and wooden groynes. As the tide goes out, expansive sand flats are revealed that are perfect for building sand castles! Further along the coast is West Wittering which has a beautiful stretch of sand offering stunning views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight and merging seamlessly with the East Head Nature Reserve a totally unspoilt headland at the entrance to Chichester Harbour. It is a wonderful piece of coastline to explore and enjoy.
Pagham Harbour, 6 miles from Marine House, is a glorious and peaceful nature reserve one of the few undeveloped stretches of the Sussex coast and an internationally important wetland site for wildlife. It is a big sheltered inlet that fills and empties with each tide with wild ducks geese and wading birds flighting to and fro. With a wealth of wildlife beautiful landscapes and a rich historical heritage it is a great place to get away from it all. In spring and autumn all sorts of migrant birds pass through. In the summer lapwings and little terns breed and butterflies flit along the hedgerows dragonflies patrol the ponds and lizards bask in the sun.
Chichester, 10 miles north of East Wittering, is the cathedral city for Sussex. It is one of the great well-preserved Georgian cities in the UK. The city centre is neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls and this helps to make Chichester compact and pleasant to explore on foot. There are plenty of good shops and restaurants and if you enjoy the theatre the Chichester Festival Theatre is worth booking due not only to the quality of productions but the fact many world premieres are featured here as well. For the film buff, the cinema complex to the south of the city also make for an enjoyable evening out. Chichester Harbour is also well worth a visit as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; it has a plethora of wildlife which shares this delightful area with the sailing activity that abounds. The harbour is made up of a series of tidal creeks and Bosham is probably the best known of the quayside villages and offers much of interest. Bosham is always bustling and is a joy to visit.
The Goodwood Estate, a ½-hour drive from Marine House, is where you can enjoy the premier motorsport events as well as Glorious Goodwood horse racing festival. Or of course you can explore the wonders Goodwood House which combines the glamour of a great English country house with the warmth of a family home.
