The Coach House
Step inside The Coach House to discover an interior that has been recently refurnished to sympathetically compliment the original stone exterior. From the entrance lobby you are naturally drawn into the main reception area, where the vaulted ceiling adds an element of surprise. The double height is effortlessly balanced with the use of coloured soft furnishings, which ensure the space is bright and welcoming for all ages. Sailing being one of the main attractions of the island is reflected in the large artworks that decorate the open plan space, where there is plenty to entertain guests. Why not embrace your competitive spirit by picking one of the many board games and settling in around the dining table or tussle for position as head chef in the large and well-equipped kitchen, whilst arguing over the choice of music that will set the mood for the evening! Along with filling the cupboards with food from the local shops, the guests are welcome to handpick seasonal vegetables which are grown in the garden behind the house – literally, bringing the outside in! After a day of exploring perhaps all that is needed is to simply relax in one of the two baths and flop on to a sofa to watch a favourite film.
The remainder of the house comprises of five bedrooms, made up as both doubles and twins over both floors. The bold colour palette from the reception area is echoed in the bedroom decor, with each room having a distinctive pop of colour. Both floors are served by a family style bathroom, with neutral decoration giving the spaces a sense of calm. Peep out of the sash windows and you will enjoy a view over the extensive garden and orchard; a reminder that you are surrounded by nature - look at the right time and you might spot some of the local wildlife, like the shy red squirrels which are native to the island or perhaps a striking peregrine falcon or barn owl. The dining table and chairs thoughtfully placed under the canopy of a wide-reaching tree in front of the house makes an idyllic spot for long, lazy summer lunches or dinners; wrap up in blankets as the night draws in. You might have to be quick to jump into the hanging chair so you can watch the work bees set the table, or perhaps steel a quiet moment suspended in time for reading.
For those who wish to stretch their legs, follow the path from the house down to the picturesque Priory Bay. As it’s only a 5 minute walk, why not spend the day enjoying the beach either swimming, snorkelling, paddle boarding or simply soaking up the sun, with an indulgent picnic. After a few days spent at The Coach house, your batteries should start to recharge – enough to enjoy all the island has to offer, making your holiday an all-round experience!
This property maybe slightly off the beaten track, but rest assure the local amenities are still in easy reach. Once outside, you can quickly immerse yourself into the islands stunning woodlands and coastal walks, with St Helens, Seaview and Bembridge being the nearest pit stops, all with wonderful beaches worthy of a visit. Seaview aptly named due to the panoramic views, comes alive in the summer, popular with the regular sailing fraternity and holiday makers alike. The local coastal towns all offer a variety of restaurants, serving local produce, with some not surprisingly, specialising in fish and seafood.
Although the island is renowned for its warm, sunny climate, plenty of the attractions can be enjoyed throughout the year. Explore the quaint villages, indulge in cream teas and local produce, discover the inventive ways to use garlic at The Garlic Farm and restaurant, take the plunge at the Tapnell Farm Aqua Park, explore the rides and grounds at Robin Hill Adventure Park, broaden your knowledge at the museums and historic sites. Fall in love with the adorable animals at one of the dedicated animal centres, like the Donkey or Wildheart Animal Sanctuaries.
Alternatively step into the world of Queen Victoria by visiting her Italian inspired holiday home Osborne House, designed by her beloved husband Prince Albert or enjoy the individual charms offered at Carisbrooke Mill or Quarr Abbey. Perhaps a day simply fishing, surfing or walking the coastal path, exploring the magical Shanklin Chine or Ventnor Botanical Gardens is more up your street. Finally, don’t forget that there is often an event or festival to factor into your holiday agenda, such as the famous Isle of Wight Festival, Cowes Week, the Walking Festival, which encompasses the whole island and the Classic Car Extravaganza, held annually in Ryde.
