Foxwood Cottage
A sumptuous single-storey country cottage on the edge of the South Downs between the wonderful West Sussex towns of Chichester and Arundel. Foxwood Cottage has a high end finish, underfloor heating, a log burner the option of a pool table. At the top of a winding path through the private enclosed garden the entrance hall provides plenty of space for outdoor gear and bags. The kitchen has most appliances you will need, a long breakfast bar and French doors leading to a patio. The dining table top can be removed to uncover a pool table. A PlayStation 3 and Wii will keep the kids entertained. The cosy sitting area with log burner, corner sofa love seat and comfy cushions is ideal to put your feet up with a good book or watch a film. The kingsize bedroom looks out over the garden and the owners’ house. The twin bedroom looks over the garden and side patio. A shower room with a walk-in shower completes the picture. The large south-facing garden is perfect for laid back days in the Sussex sunshine. There is plenty of farmland and wildlife to enjoy in this rural corner of West Sussex including some curious cats and ponies and donkeys in the nearby paddocks.
Foxwood Cottage sits close to the 1400 hectare Slindon Estate owned by the National Trust. The nearby woods open onto farmland on the lower slopes of the South Downs. Within the estate are over 30 miles of rights of way to explore. Included within this is Stane Street, the Roman road linking London with Chichester offering a picturesque walk through the woods. Also nearby is Denman Gardens - the former home and garden of the late John Brookes MBE one of Britain’s most influential landscape designers.
Foxwood Cottage is in the perfect location for the premier motorsport events at Goodwood just a ten-minute drive, taking in some of the most beautiful country roads over the Downs. For classically British pastimes the famous Goodwood Estate offers a range of activities including a championship golf course, the motor circuit racecourse and aerodrome. It offers an exciting calendar of events throughout the year. Glorious Goodwood Fontwell Park is only a mile away - a unique figure of eight track and a jewel of West Sussex horse racing. Arundel, 5 miles, is a historic market town dominated by the castle and the cathedral spire. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops, restaurants and tea rooms. Arundel Castle has been the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk for over 850 years and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The Keep dates back to the 11th century and climbing its 131 steps is definitely worth the effort to take in the views. Chichester, also 5 miles, is the small cathedral city of Sussex. This ancient city is steeped in history including the cathedral and the preserved Roman walls. A wealth of listed buildings edge the streets including independent and high street shops, pubs and restaurants. Chichester is full of culture with the Festival Theatre, art galleries and museums. The beaches at Climping and Bognor Regis are around 7 miles away. Climping is a beautiful unspoilt beach of Special Scientific Interest. At its eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun in Littlehampton the West Beach cafe was built by local craftsmen using materials sourced locally.
