Stepping up from the drive onto the south-facing decking, bi-fold doors welcome you into this large holiday cottage. The huge open plan living allows space for the family to spread out with double-height ceilings revealing the fantastic oak and steel structure of the barn. The sleek glossy kitchen offers a full set of appliances with a long breakfast bar and plenty of space to move around. It is a central part of the room and allows for a jovial social atmosphere to make the most of this premium self-catering experience. Next to the kitchen area the dining table which has been cleverly arranged to the side under an arched floor lamp creating an intimate space for dinner parties and low-key celebrations with friends. To the opposite side the living area offers three large sofas centred around a Smart TV; a comfortable space to kick back and unwind with a film or board game. Underfloor heating throughout the barn ensures warmth and cosiness underfoot whatever the weather outside. Set along the hall from the open plan living space are the three bedrooms. The generous master features a kingsize bed, oak furniture, and a large modern wet room. Bedroom two, next door, also offers a kingsize bed and is another sanctuary for relaxation with the same close-up vista of hedgerows and trees from the window. On the other side of the hall bedroom three is configured ideally for the kids with a single bed and additional pull-out which is more suitable for a child.
Being laid out across a single flat level inside with just a couple of steps up to the decking this is an inviting country cottage for those with limited mobility too. Named after the majestic birds that roost and nest in the trees nearby much of the beautiful artwork at Owl Barn is inspired by the wildlife that is typical to this area. Painted by a local artist and each one unique, some are even available to purchase as an exclusive memento of your holiday.
Owl Barn is newly renovated for 2021 and currently offers a decked terrace with an outside dining table and chairs and a charcoal BBQ. The lawn just beyond the decking is still establishing and is out of bounds until March 2022 however a small field, 50 yards from the barn, is provided for your use until this time.
Goddards Green is a small gathering of rural farms and cottages collected around the focal point of the traditional village pub. It is perfectly positioned between the South Downs and the Sussex Weald and both are easily reached within a couple of miles. 15 minutes away by car you will find the spectacular panoramic views at Devils Dyke and Ditchling Beacon and Brighton is but a short drive. There are many National Trust and other gardens nearby including Borde Hill, Wakehurst Place and Nymans, all set within the Sussex High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Hickstead Showground is less than 2 miles away making this a perfect residence for those looking to experience the thrills and technical elegance on display at the Royal International Horse Show the Al Shira’aa Horse Show, Hickstead Derby Meeting and other equestrian events.
A couple of miles south on the boundary of the South Downs National Park is Hurstpierpoint which sits close to the slopes of the South Downs. The main street is made up of buildings that date from the 18th century giving it that traditional English small market town appeal and nice restaurants can be found here too.
Brighton is just 10 miles to the south and is a lively and vibrant city with a melting pot of culture. One of its most famous landmarks is the Royal Pavilion, the spectacular seaside palace of the Prince Regent and the Regency heritage of this period is much in evidence in the city. 14 miles east is the historic county town of Lewes in East Sussex. Its castle overlooks the town and is open to visitors as is the Barbican Museum opposite. With the old Cliffe High Street and the Harvey’s Brewery across from the River Ouse there is much to see and do. Visiting on the first Saturday of the month is recommended when a thriving Farmers’ Market takes place with lots of delicious fare on offer. Beach 13½ miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub 340 yards and restaurant 2½ miles.
