Knockinaam House
Knockinaam House is a detached cottage at Cairngarroch. It's up a private driveway in the woods, about five minutes' drive from Portpatrick. The house looks out over fields and trees towards the sea. On a clear day you can see the Isle of Man.
It sleeps eight. There are four bedrooms. One is downstairs. There are three bathrooms, one with a shower and two with baths. There's an open fire in the lounge. You're welcome to use it, we provide some fuel. The stairs are standard, not too steep.
The dining room has patio doors that open onto the terrace. You can eat outside if the weather's decent. The garden is enclosed. You can bring one dog. Please keep it out of the bedrooms.
Portpatrick is the nearest village. It's a good walk along the country lane, about a mile or so, or a very short drive. There's a few pubs and places to eat there. The harbour is nice.
If you like walking, you can do the cliff path loop from the village. It's about four miles. You might see dolphins or porpoises in the bay. For a longer trip, the Mull of Galloway is about a forty minute drive south. It's a nature reserve and the lighthouse is worth seeing. RSPB Mull of Galloway.
Logan Botanic Garden is a twenty minute drive away. It's a sheltered walled garden with tropical plants. Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Logan. Castle Kennedy Gardens are about half an hour away, near Stranraer.
For cycling, the 7Stanes trail at Kirroughtree Forest is within a half hour drive. The Galloway Forest Park is a Dark Sky Park, so if you're into astronomy it's a good place to go on a clear night. Forestry and Land Scotland Galloway Forest Park.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, a cot and a highchair, bedding and towels are included. There's parking for three cars on the gravel drive. The house has a 4 Star rating. It's wheelchair accessible to the ground floor only, including the downstairs bedroom and a wet-room shower.
