Fern Forest House is on the Dunskey Estate just outside Portpatrick. It's detached, surrounded by a lot of land. You get the garden, which has a fire pit and a barbecue.
It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, and each one has its own bathroom with a shower and a bath. That's quite handy. Beds are comfy, and two dogs are welcome.
The place is a 5 Star property, which means it's well-finished. There's an open fire in the living room, the kitchen is modern, and there's underfloor heating. Wi-Fi is included.
You're on a big private estate. You can walk down to the coastline, there are lochs and waterfalls. The beach is about a mile away. There's a pub and a restaurant a mile in the other direction, in Portpatrick. The town has a shop too, but the proper supermarkets are in Stranraer, about eight miles away.
From here you can walk the Southern Upland Way. The Mull of Galloway is about a half hour drive south. You can get over to Ireland on the ferry from Cairnryan, which takes about 45 minutes to drive to.
