Hawthorn Cottage

Hawthorn Cottage is in Stranraer. It's a detached cottage, so no shared walls. You've got a bit of garden that's fully enclosed.

The place sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, three bathrooms, so a decent amount of space. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's well-equipped and comfortable, so you won't be roughing it.

A shop is about 200 yards away, and a pub and a restaurant are about 500 yards. You can walk into the town centre easily. The sea is even closer, maybe a five minute walk.

There's a games room in the cottage with a pool table and table tennis. The main living room has a woodburning stove. There's a dishwasher and a washing machine, and bedding and towels are provided. Parking for two cars on site. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets sorry.

Stranraer itself is a working port town. It's handy if you want to get the ferry from Cairnryan, which is about six miles up the road, over to Belfast for a day trip.

For walks, the Southern Upland Way goes right past the town. There's Agnew Park nearby if you've got kids, with pedal boats and a playground. The town has a museum and the Castle of St. John.

If you drive about twenty minutes, you can get to some big gardens like Castle Kennedy and Logan. The Rhins peninsula is out that way too, with Portpatrick and the Mull of Galloway lighthouse at the very tip.

Useful links if you're looking for information: National Parks in Scotland, Galloway Forest Park which is about a half hour drive inland, and Historic Environment Scotland for castle visits.
