Rowan Cottage

Rowan Cottage is in Stoneykirk, just outside Sandhead. It's a detached house, so you're not sharing any walls. The beach is about a mile's walk away, a proper sandy one that goes on for ages.

It sleeps six people. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bathroom is a wet room on the ground floor. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well kitted out. The place is designed to be accessible, so there are things like grab rails and level access at the entrance.

Sandhead village has the basics: a shop, a pub, and a restaurant, all about a mile away. The pub does food.

If you're driving, Portpatrick is about ten minutes away. It's a pretty harbour village and the start of the Southern Upland Way. Stranraer is a fifteen-minute drive for bigger shops. Castle Kennedy Gardens are just outside Stranraer and worth a visit.

The big thing to see locally is the Mull of Galloway. It's Scotland's most southerly point. The views on a clear day are incredible. You can see Ireland and the Isle of Man. The RSPB run a centre there.

Further afield, within about half an hour, you've got Logan Botanic Garden. It's full of exotic plants because the climate's so mild here. The Galloway Forest Park is about a 40-minute drive. It's a Dark Sky Park, so if you're into stargazing, that's the place.

For facilities, it's got the lot. Washing machine, dishwasher, Wi-Fi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's on-site parking and a place to store bikes. You can bring up to two dogs. There's a cot and highchair if you need them.
