Oxtoby's Upstairs

Oxtoby's Upstairs is in York, just inside the city walls on Gillygate. It's the top two floors of a Georgian townhouse. The ground floor is a separate cottage, Oxtoby's Downstairs, if you need more space.

It sleeps four. Two double bedrooms, one bathroom. It's a 4 Star, so it's well looked after. The stairs are the original ones, so they're a proper Georgian staircase. They're fine, but they wind a bit.

The living room and dining room look out over the street to the city walls. You can see the Minster from the front windows. The kitchen is small but it's got everything you need, including a dishwasher.

There's a small patio out the back. It gets the sun in the afternoon. It's a spot to sit, not a big garden.

You're right in the middle of things. The nearest pub is about a hundred yards away. Shops and restaurants are a couple of minutes' walk. You won't need the car much once you're here. There's one parking space on site.

York's all around you. The walls are right there for a walk. The Minster, the Shambles, the Railway Museum are all within walking distance. For a trip out, Castle Howard is about half an hour's drive. The Yorkshire Museum of Farming at Murton Park is about twenty minutes.

Facilities: WiFi, TV, washing machine, that patio, bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.

If you're planning, the City of York Council site has practical info, and English Heritage looks after a few sites locally like the Cold War Bunker.
