Brookshaw Cottage

Brookshaw Cottage is in York, about a 15-minute walk from the city centre. It's an end-of-terrace stone cottage, built around 1890. It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. One's a double, the other has twins. There's one bathroom, with a shower over the bath.

It's got a 4 Star rating. It's been done up nicely inside, it's clean and comfortable. You've got a private patio out the back. It's small but it gets the sun in the evening. Good for a sit down after a day out.

The stairs are a typical cottage staircase. They're fine, but they are a bit steeper than a modern house. The entrance and the main rooms are all on the ground floor, which is level from the street.

You're well placed for walking into town. York Minster, the Shambles, the Railway Museum, Clifford's Tower, they're all within walking distance. The racecourse isn't far either. York's busy, especially at Christmas and during festivals, but the cottage itself is on a quieter residential street.

For days out further afield, the North York Moors are about a 40-minute drive. The coast at Scarborough or Filey is roughly an hour. If you're planning to explore, the North York Moors National Park website is useful. For history in the city, English Heritage and the National Trust have local properties.

Facilities: WiFi, washing machine, bedding and towels are all included. One well-behaved dog is welcome. There's parking for one car on the street outside the cottage.
