So Blackbrook is one of the cottages at Shallcross Hall, which is up near Whaley Bridge. The building used to be a farmhouse and dairy. It's been converted into a few different places, so there are neighbours, but you've got your own front door.
It sleeps six in two bedrooms, with one bathroom. Has the 3 Star rating. It's comfortable and everything works, but it's not a luxury hotel. The main thing is the view. From the front you look out over the valley towards the hills. It's good to just sit with a cup of tea.
There's a decent-sized shared lawn area with some garden furniture and a barbecue. You can use that.
The indoor swimming pool is shared with the other cottages too. It's in a separate building next door. You book slots for it, which works fine.
In terms of stuff: WiFi, parking, bedding and towels are all included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. You can bring one dog.
Whaley Bridge itself has a few shops, pubs and cafes. You can walk along the canal there. For longer walks, you're right on the edge of the Peak District. The Goyt Valley is close by for a proper ramble.
Buxton is about a 20-minute drive. It's got the Opera House, the Pavilion Gardens, and all the shops. Chatsworth House is maybe half an hour away. So is Lyme Park.
If you're planning walks or days out, these sites are useful: Peak District National Park and National Trust Peak District.
