This is Blackbrook, one of the cottages at Shallcross Hall in Whaley Bridge. It's a two bedroom place that sleeps six, though that's with using the sofa bed. There's one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean, not luxury.
The cottage is part of a converted old farmhouse. There are three other apartments here, so you'll see other guests around. The big thing is the shared indoor swimming pool, which is right at the side of the main building. It's a decent size.
Outside, there's a good sized lawned area that everyone uses, with garden furniture and a barbecue. The views from up here are the main feature. You get rolling countryside on all sides, really good for just sitting with a coffee.
Inside, it's straightforward. The kitchen has what you need. Wifi works. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. Parking is right there.
You can bring one dog. The stairs inside are typical for an old building, a bit steep.
For things to do, you're on the edge of the Peak District. Buxton is about a 15 minute drive, with its opera house and Pavilion Gardens. The traffic can be heavy in summer, just so you know. You can get to the Goyt Valley in under 10 minutes for walking. The High Peak Trail is close for cycling or walking. For a big day out, Alton Towers is roughly half an hour by car.
