Silk Hill Stables

Silk Hill Stables is on the edge of Whaley Bridge, right where the town ends and the Peak District starts. It's a detached bungalow, converted from an old stable on a working livery yard. The horses are in the field next door. You can see Kinder Scout from the gate.

It's a four star place, so it's comfortable and well looked after. It sleeps two, with one bedroom and one bathroom. Everything's on the ground floor. It was our home before we let it out, so it's got a homely feel, not a stark holiday let.

The kitchen has a dog hatch that leads out to a completely enclosed patio. There's seating and a barbecue out there. It's private. We've left some bowls and towels for dogs. By arrangement, you can use a secure field on site to let them run around properly.

There's a pub about a quarter of a mile down the lane. Whaley Bridge is a short walk the other way. It's a small town with a few pubs that do food, some cafes, and a shop. The train station there has direct lines to Manchester and Buxton.

Five minutes in the car gets you to Buxworth Basin, which is the start of the Peak Forest Canal. There's a good pub there too. For walking, you can go straight from the door into the hills, or you're a very short drive from the Goyt Valley or the trails up to Kinder.

Facilities: it's got a wood burning stove, a washing machine, TV, WiFi, and parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included. The garden is enclosed. We allow up to four dogs.
