The White Cottage

This is The White Cottage. It's in Furness Vale, right by the Peak Forest Canal. The cottage is from about 1840. It's attached to our house, but it's completely separate for you.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and everything works, but it's not going to be in a fancy magazine. You can bring one well-behaved dog.

The best bit is the canal. The garden looks straight out onto the towpath. Upstairs, the kitchen door opens to a little terrace that overlooks the water. You can watch the narrowboats go by.

Inside, it's a proper cottage. The walls are thick. The stairs are a bit steep and winding, which is normal for a place this old. You get a washing machine, TV, wi-fi, and all your bedding and towels are included. There's parking right here.

For getting basics, there's a supermarket about a mile away. You can walk to it along the canal towpath, which is nice, or it's five minutes in the car. There's a fish and chip shop 300 yards up the road. The nearest pub is 400 yards away. If you want a meal, there's a pub serving food two miles down the road.

Location-wise, you're right on the edge of the Peak District. Buxton and Castleton are maybe a 20-minute drive. You can be walking on the High Peak moors very quickly. For riding or golf, there are places nearby.

If you want a city day, Manchester is about half an hour by train from New Mills, which is the next station along from us.
