Shallcross Hall Cottages - Combs
Combs is one of the apartments at Shallcross Hall, just outside Whaley Bridge. The place used to be a farmhouse and dairy. It’s a first-floor flat, so you go up some external stone steps to get in. It sleeps four but it’s one bedroom with a double bed and a sofa bed in the living area. There’s one bathroom.
It’s a 3 Star place. That means it’s clean and comfortable, but not luxurious. The main thing is the view. You get a really good look over the fields from the living room and bedroom. There’s a shared lawn with some garden furniture if you want to sit outside.
Inside, you’ve got a kitchen area with the basics, a TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a washing machine too. You can bring one dog.
The swimming pool is indoors and it’s shared with the other apartments here. You book slots for it, which usually works out fine. It’s to the side of the main building.
There’s a local pub about a ten-minute walk away. Whaley Bridge has a Co-op and a few other shops. It’s a handy base.
You’re right on the edge of the Peak District. For walking, the Goyt Valley is close by. You can drive up to Buxton in about fifteen minutes, or into the proper hills around Kinder Scout in maybe twenty-five minutes. For a day out, Chatsworth House is about half an hour away.
