Dewsnap Spring is our place in New Smithy, up near Chinley. It's a one-bedroom cottage for two people, single storey so no stairs to worry about. It's in our grounds but it's completely separate and private.
It's got a 4 Star rating. That means it's comfortable and well looked after. Everything you need is there. The bathroom is en suite. There's a proper garden that's enclosed, so it's private. You can sit out there and just look at the fields.
The location is the main thing. You walk out the door and you're straight onto footpaths. You can walk up towards Kinder Scout without having to drive anywhere first. The views from around here are really good.
Chinley station is about a mile and a half away if you want to get the train. You can walk to Edale from here and get the train back, or the other way around. The bus stop is about a thousand yards away on the main road, goes to Buxton or Whaley Bridge.
We're in the middle of things. Chapel-en-le-Frith is two miles for shops. Buxton and Castleton are about fifteen minutes in the car. For a longer day out, Bakewell, Chatsworth House, and Haddon Hall are all within half an hour. So is Lyme Park.
Facilities wise: it's all included. Bedding, towels, WiFi, TV. There's a washing machine and a dishwasher. Parking is right outside. We've put in an electric vehicle charger. You can store bikes. Sorry, no pets.
If you're planning walks or days out, these sites are useful: Peak District National Park, National Trust Lyme Park, and for Chatsworth it's Chatsworth House.
