The Retreat is on a country lane just outside Loders. It's a big, old thatched barn they've done up into a house. It's detached, so you won't have neighbours on the other side of a wall.
It sleeps ten people, which is a lot. There are five bedrooms and four bathrooms, so you shouldn't be queueing. It's got a 4 Star rating. Everything works and it's comfortable, but it's an old building so expect uneven floors and low beams in some places. Just watch your head.
The main thing is it has its own indoor heated swimming pool. It's not huge, but it's fine for a proper swim or for the kids to splash about in. There's also a games room with a table tennis table. The garden is lawned, with a patio. You're looking out over fields.
You're about three miles from the coast. West Bay is the closest, with its big cliffs. The South West Coast Path is right there. Golden Cap is a good walk from there. Bridport is two miles away for shops, pubs, and its market.
Further along, Lyme Regis is about a twenty minute drive. Dorchester is about half an hour. Weymouth and the Tank Museum at Bovington are also within about thirty minutes if you fancy a day out.
What's here: all bedding is included, there's a cot and highchair, a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking for a few cars on the drive. No pets, I'm afraid.
If you're planning walks or visiting local beaches, the National Trust Dorset site has good information.
